West Bromwich Albion's Scott Carson sets his sights on return to Fabio Capello's England squad

ENGLAND hopeful Scott Carson has set his sights on making it back into Fabio Capello’s squad.

The Albion keeper missed out on selection for this summer’s World Cup after picking up an injury before the final qualifier.

His chances of making it back into the fold were hampered by the fact the Baggies had dropped into the Championship.

And so the former Liverpool goalkeeper could only watch as Robert Green – who endured a nightmare tournament, David James and Joe Hart were picked ahead of him.

But after a return to the top flight and a promotion season Carson believes was his best ever, the 24-year-old is ready to return to the international arena.

That’s certainly the opinion of his coach at West Brom Dean Kiely, who reckons Carson might even benefit from not being associated with the ‘car crash’ in South Africa.

And Carson is determined to take advantage of Green’s high profile gaffe against the USA and the likelihood that James will not be called up again. “Being in the Premier League can only help my England chances,” Carson said.

“I said last season that I want to be the No. 1 here for as long as I can.

“Hopefully I can have a good season here this season and if England come calling I will be ready.

“But my first priority is to be No. 1 here, playing well and being consistent.

“Mr Capello has picked me in the past, that always helps, I have been in his thoughts.
