West Brom: Miller hopes to win battle for Chelsea trip

Ishmael Miller

ISHMAEL Miller is confident he has done enough to earn himself a start against Chelsea on Saturday.

The striker has being jostling with Roman Bednar for the honour of leading Albion’s forward line.

Although Bednar is probably more suited to the lone-striker role favoured by Roberto Di Matteo, Miller scored three times during pre-season.

He hopes that return will give the head coach a tough decision to make before he settles on his final team for Stamford Bridge.

“It’s a tough challenge and it will be an interesting game,” said Miller. “I want to play.

“I hope to have done enough but it’s the manager’s call.

“Roman’s a good player too. Sometimes it’s not about me, it’s about the team and if the gaffer thinks that away at Chelsea Roman might be better, I might be better or someone else might be better, then you have to go with that.

“Hopefully I’ve done enough to convince him it should be me.

“I’ve done alright in pre-season. I’ve scored three goals and it’s nice to keep my confidence and spirits high for the start of the season.

“Hopefully the team can go into the campaign full of confidence.”

Miller believes this Baggies side are in better shape than the one he played in two years ago.

He feels that footballing principles must be secondary to results.
