ROBERTO Di Matteo says new signings have given the Baggies the right blend to stay up.
Albion secured eight players in the window and added valuable know-how.
“I think as much as we could, we have signed players who will give us some ability or qualities we didn’t have before,” said Di Matteo.
“I want us to be competitive and the players we have brought in are competitive and they will strengthen our team.
“Hopefully, we can go into games and be right in there, then if a Fernando Torres pulls off a real piece of class we have to live with that.
“The Premier League is a tough league. You need to be physically and mentally strong, you need to have a little bit of skill, a little bit of enthusiasm, some confidence and a bit of everything.
‘‘We had a very young squad last year. The average age was quite low and we’ve injected a little bit of experience. We hope that is the right recipe to have a good season.”
