West Brom: Di Matteo to assess Graham Dorrans before Birmingham City clash

Graham Dorrans

ROBERTO Di Matteo will assess Graham Dorrans’ well-being before deciding whether to throw the Albion midfielder back into action for Saturday’s derby against Blues.

The Scotland international suffered a family bereavement last week, forcing him to withdraw from international duty and Albion’s fixture against Spurs.

Dorrans has now returned to training, although Di Matteo is still unsure whether to restructure his midfield, not least as he was impressed by the convincing display against the North Londoners.

The Baggies boss, who has also welcomed Joe Mattock back to training, said: “Graham is back in training and is okay. He’s missed a week and he will get back into his stride hopefully very soon.

“We’ll see how he goes and how he trains this week, how he is mentally. I would hope he’ll be involved on Saturday – but I will need to see over the week.

“I had a chat with him yesterday and I know he’s an important player for us.

“He hasn’t quite hit the form of last season yet. But he will reach it sooner or later and when he does he’s going to be a vital player.

“He knows himself that he hasn’t quite reached the form of last season – but that’s only normal.”
