West Brom: Nicky Shorey backed to make England return

Nicky Shorey

NICKY Shorey has been backed to make a return into the England fold by West Brom team-mate Simon Cox.

The duo were team-mates at Reading when Shorey first came into the national spot-light three years ago.

Shorey was a member of the Royals first-team which made an immediate impact in the Premier League following their emphatic promotion during the previous campiagn.

Cox had just come through the ranks at the Madejski Stadium and witnessed his colleague’s rise to prominence, which led to eventual international recognition.

Shorey went onto win two England caps in 2007, playing against Brazil and Germany, and was also included in Steve McClaren’s squad for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Estonia.

The left-back is finally rediscovering his form at club level following two barren years at Villa.

And Cox believes Shorey, who joined Albion in the summer, is worthy of an England recall.
