ROBERTO Di Matteo will make a late decision on whether to axe off-form Scott Carson for this Saturday’s game against Blackpool.
The Baggies boss is expected to give Boaz Myhill a chance in the crucial Hawthorns fixture but is mindful of the sensitive nature of his decision, knowing that he will be also dropping his captain.
Myhill played well against Reading, producing an excellent save during the first-half.
Carson has come under-fire from fans in recent games, notably following a poor display against Fulham.
Di Matteo was diplomatic after the game but the England international’s poor form has not gone unnoticed.
And Di Matteo plans to consult goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely before making his final call.
“I thought Boaz did well on Saturday and I’ll have a tough decision to make this week,” Di Matteo told the Birmingham Mail.
“I haven’t made the decision yet but I will later when the time is right.
“I want to allow myself time to think about it and see how the training week goes like with any other players.
“I will talk with Dean Kiely and ultimately I will make the decision.
“I always back my players as long as it doesn’t deter from the team performance.
“But we need to look who is in the best shape or form to win a game for us.”
Regardless of his pre-match decision, Di Matteo is sympathetic towards Carson.
