West Brom are closing in on the appointment of Chris Hughton as the club’s new manager.

The 52-year-old held talks with the Baggies’ board yesterday tea-time, with discussions continuing into the evening.

I understand there was a hitch late last night, which needed further discussions today.

If those are concluded to everyone’s satisfaction then Hughton could be announced as Albion’s new head coach later today.

Michael Appleton might still take charge of Saturday’s game against West Ham with Hughton likely to watch from the stand.

But Appleton’s future could yet be in doubt, not least as he has ambitions to take charge himself.

It has not yet been established who will form part of Hughton’s coaching staff, if he does take over.
