CHRIS Brunt believes Sunday’s Black Country showdown with Wolves will be the biggest derby of his career so far.
The Baggies captain is likely to be one of only two survivors from the previous time the two rivals met, during the final weeks of the 2007-08 season.
Brunt admits Sunday’s encounter – their first top-flight meeting since 1983-84 – cannot be underestimated given the position of both clubs.
Wolves are bottom on 24 points with Albion just three points better off in 17th, only above the line on goal difference.
The ex-Sheffield Wednesday winger said: “This is probably the biggest derby I’ve ever played in, whether in Sheffield or down here.
“The positions we find ourselves in means it’s massive.
“Against West Ham last week I came off after the game with Mark Noble and he said it wasn’t great for either of us. He was right but in some ways we were lucky to get a point.
“It’s big for the fans but for the players it doesn’t matter if it’s Wolves, Arsenal, Man United or Barcelona.
“You can’t get too carried away with the derby thing or you end up with loss of discipline, people going missing, losing concentration.
“That’s not me trying to play it down – because the fans will ensure it can’t be played down – but as players we need to keep our heads and be disciplined and organised.”
