NICKY Shorey wants Albion to take care of themselves to ensure there is no frantic worrying about results elsewhere.
The Baggies travel to Tottenham tomorrow knowing a draw will take them on to 40 points.
Roy Hodgson has said previously that 42 points would be enough and Shorey agrees, insisting Albion are nowhere near safe.
In reality Albion could well already have the required number of points, not least as many of the clubs at the bottom have yet to play each other.
But Shorey wants Albion to look after their own results, rather than get hand-outs from teams around them.
And the former Villa and Reading man feels the competitive nature of this season’s top flight is a tribute to the clubs fighting for their lives.
“We’re not safe,” said Shorey, speaking at yesterday’s Disabled Supporters Club open day.
“It’s been a freak season and probably the best we’ve had in the Premier League.
“It’s a credit to everyone and no-one from tenth downwards can feel safe.
“All we have to do is get as many points between now and end of the season.
“We have to concentrate on ourselves.
“It’s human nature to look at other results but we cannot do that – we can only focus on ourselves.”
