ALBION goal hero Simon Cox celebrated his first strike in the Premier League but insisted the point won at Spurs does not mean they are safe from relegation.
Cox’s stunning equaliser in the 81st minute gave Albion a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane but Cox said: “We’re not safe yet. Saturday’s result was a big step towards safety but we’re going to need more points.’’
He added: “Scoring goals in the Premier League is what every boy dreams about and I’m thankful I got off the mark.”
And he insisted his goal was no fluke.
He explained: “I definitely meant it. It was one of those moments where I couldn’t see a pass on so I thought ‘go for the far corner’ and it went in so I was happy.’’
Cox admitted it had been tough for him this season.
He said: “If you don’t tear up trees in your first
couple of games you suddenly find yourself sitting on the bench and it’s very hard to fit in.
“But if I can play a bit part from now until the end of the season then I’m happy to do so.”
And Cox praised head coach Roy Hodgson for the way he has turned things around at The Hawthorns.
He said: “When he came in it was a new lease of life for everybody and it turned over a new leaf for the lads who weren’t getting as big a shout under Robbie. I have just kept doing my stuff.
“I haven’t done anything different. I have gone into training every day with a smile on my face and just tried to be what he wants me to be.
“If that’s a centre-forward it’s a centre-forward, if it’s a midfield player it’s a midfield player. I just have to fit in somewhere.”
