West Brom: James Morrison likens Roy Hodgson to Steve McClaren

James Morrison

JAMES Morrison looked ahead to Sunday’s derby against Wolves and revealed Roy Hodgson is the best manager he has played for.

The midfielder has struggled to hold down a regular place in the starting line-up since the appointment of the 63-year-old.

Yet Morrison has not allowed that to cloud his judgment and feels the former Liverpool boss is the finest he has worked with, likening him to his former Middlesbrough manager Steve McClaren.

The Scotland international told the Birmingham Mail: “He is tactically the best manager I’ve played under.

“Very similar to Steve McClaren in many ways – organisation, shape and what he wants you to do when out of possession, in possession.

“I’m really impressed even though I’ve not played in every game under him.

“It’s an 18-man game, which he’s reminded us off. He mixes things up in training and everyone is so desperate to prove him wrong.

“He’s changed it around.

“We’ve got one defeat in 12 games – that’s top-six form, a great record. If we can keep that going then ideal.”

Morrison is keen for Albion to maintain their progress next season even though he believes it could potentially be an even tougher campaign.

“If you look at the run we’ve been on it shows we can be a top-half team,” he continued.
