ZOLTAN Gera returned ‘home’ to West Brom declaring that he was planning to stay at the club until 2016.
The 32-year-old signed a two-year contract, with a 12-month option yesterday morning.
But Gera is already looking beyond that and would, ideally, like to stay at the club for five years.
He admitted a pang of emotion during his unveiling yesterday.
“I would like to finish my career here hopefully,” he said.
“I want to stay not just for three years, but hopefully five years. I don’t want to retire too soon.”
He continued: “This was the best move for me. It’s emotional, too, because the club gave me a lot and hopefully I can give something back. The fans were always amazing with me
“I had offers from Fulham. They tried to keep me, not just the new manager (Martin Jol) but Mark Hughes as well.
“Sometimes a player just needs to move but to be back at West Brom is good and Roy (Hodgson) is the best.
“I don’t need to find any better. I know Roy, I know the club – I feel like I’ve come back home.”
Gera, who recently underwent ankle surgery, is targeting the Norwich game in September for his comeback.
The Hungarian is banned for the opening three games – two League games and a Carling Cup clash.
