ROY Hodgson admits he will be “disappointed’’ if Albion defender Gabriel Tamas is punished following his clash with James Vaughan.
The Norwich City striker was taken to hospital for plastic surgery treatment to his face after his collision with Tamas.
Vaughan was forced to change his shirt due to the facial wound and confronted the Romanian after the final whistle of Albion’s 1-0 win at Carrow Road yesterday. Referee Mark Halsey did not spot the incident, yet Tamas could still be punished if the FA decide to study video evidence.
Hodgson is not expecting any restrospective action.
“It was an elbow but it was unintentional,” said the manager.
“I’ve looked at it again because it was very contentious.
“It doesn’t make it any happier for Vaughan whether it’s intentional or not – it’s still going to be very painful.
“As Tamas turned he caught him with his elbow.
“I would be disappointed if it led to a disciplinary hearing.
“I don’t think that will be necessary.
“It’s a strange thing because we’re against video technology.
“We can’t work out when video technology is a good thing and when it’s a bad thing.”
Norwich boss Paul Lambert disagreed, adding: “It was a penalty. And I think he got him.”
Meanwhile, Hodgson felt his side should have killed the game after Halsey’s decision to award a penalty to Albion following Steven Morison’s push on Steven Reid.
Peter Odemwingie missed the spot-kick, with Hodgson adding: “It was a hard-fought win though we were our own worst enemies at times, especially in the second half.
