West Brom: Zoltan Gera situation frustrates Roy Hodgson

Zoltan Gera

ROY Hodgson has revealed his frustration at Zoltan Gera’s ongoing injury problems - after ruling out any chance of him travelling to Hungary for their Euro 2012 qualifier.

Hungary boss Sandor Egervari wanted to name the 32-year-old in his squad for their game against Finland.

But Hodgson revealed the extent of Gera’s ankle injury, claiming that it was not the same problem which necessitated summer surgery.

Albion were hoping Gera might return during to training during the coming international break but that is now unlikely.

Hodgson said: “Gera can’t go to Hungary. He hasn’t kicked a ball since joining us.

“He’s only joined in two sessions with the first team - the rest of the time he’s been with the medical staff.

“There is some hope that during the international break he will join in with the players who are left behind but he’s about as far away as playing a game for Hungary as I am.

“I believe they (Hungary) made a request but it’s out of the question.

“I don’t know what they made the request for.

“Perhaps it’s for him to be there as a talisman but the truth is that he needs treatment so there is no question of us sending him there.

“We need him here to try to get him fit.

“And there is some hope that by the time this break is over then maybe his chances of playing for us will not be miles and miles away.
