Alan McInally: What the weekend holds for Aston Villa, Birmingham City, West Brom and Wolves

VILLA face Everton and both sides could be a little weary after their midweek cup excursions.

David Moyes wasn’t best-pleased with the timing of the Toffees’ clash with Spurs, but footballers love playing football so his troops won’t have minded another game one bit.

Martin O’Neill could have done without extra-time at Sunderland, but will be delighted to still be in the hat.

The early rounds give managers the chance to play some of the kids and the stiffs, but now it’s the quarters and everyone wants it.

After a period where the big teams didn’t seem too concerned about the competition, I’m glad more of them are giving the trophy the respect it deserves.

Going to Goodison is never easy but for some reason it’s not been the fortress of recent seasons so far this time round.

Wolves got a point there, as did Stoke, and Arsenal played them off the park.

Villa have been decent on the road and already won on their last visit to Liverpool when they picked up three points at Anfield – I think they could win in the city again tomorrow.
