West Brom's Cech is focused on promotion

MAREK Cech is aiming for the second part of his double target for this season - with World Cup qualification now assured, he wants promotion.

The Baggies star was part of the Slovakia team which earned qualification for next year's World Cup, finishing top, ahead of Slovenia and Northern Ireland, as well as Eastern European neighbours Poland and Czech Republic.

Cech is now focusing on helping Albion back to the top flight following his nation's success.

"I had two targets this season," said Cech.

"One target is already done because we qualified, and the other is to get promoted.

"It is a great thing but now is the difficult part for the players because we need to play for our clubs to be nominated for the World Cup.

"Nobody has a free space in the squad because you can take only 23 players and every player will do his maximum to be nominated."

Cech, meanwhile, admitted how much he was enjoying life under Roberto Di Matteo, following a frustrating season under previous boss Tony Mowbray.

"It is a different situation for me now. I am playing and I am much happier than 12 months ago," he continued.
