West Brom's Roman Bednar speaks of 'terrifying' injury

Roman Bednar

ROMAN Bednar expects to be fit for this Saturday’s trip to Leicester City after revealing how his ‘terrifying’ back injury left him partially paralysed for several hours.

The Baggies striker was unable to move his left side after a twisted rib trapped nerves in his back, forcing it to spasm and then seize up.

Bednar was taken to hospital at half-time during the Reading game after picking up the knock during the opening minutes of the 3-1 win.

The excrutiating injury left him immobilised for some time and needed further physiotherapy following a week-long rest period.

Bednar made his comeback in Monday night’s 10-0 reserve-team thrashing of Burton Albion, helping himself to his side’s seventh goal.

But memories of the back injury still leaves him shuddering.

“It was so painful,” Bednar told the Birmingham Mail.

“My ribs got twisted and when that happened the whole left side of my back just got stuck with cramp so I was in agony and then I couldn’t move.

“I was stuck on a bed for four hours, without being able to move.

“I needed pills to relax me.

“They took me to hosptial at half-time as they didn’t know what had happened - it was scary, terrifying and very strange.
