Kilmarnock 0 Wolves 3

WOLVES’ tour of Scotland closed in perfect fashion with their best performance of pre-season so far as they outclassed Kilmarnock.

New strikers Chris Iwelumo and Sam Vokes shared the goals as the Scottish Premier League side were made to look very ordinary.

Even the usual raft of substitutions by manager Mick McCarthy (only goalkeeper Carl Ikeme played the whole game) failed to give the Killies a glimmer of hope.

The home supporters trudged away feeling less than upbeat about their team’s prospects for the new season.

“Wolves were rampant,” lamented one – a comment which would be music to McCarthy’s ears occasionally as the Championship programme unfolds in the months ahead.

His team won’t find many defences quite this accommodating though.

On 23 minutes, Michael Gray’s free-kick found Iwelumo totally unmarked eight yards out and the former Kilmarnock youth-team player made no mistake.

Nine minutes later a Matt Jarvis cross found the defence dithering again and Vokes took full advantage to thump the ball high into the net.

The third goal arrived 10 minutes after the break when a slick left-sided move ended with Daniel Jones’s cross flicked home by Iwelumo.

Wolves next visit neighbours Walsall tomorrow night before welcoming former skipper Paul Ince back to Molineux when they face his Blackburn Rovers side on Saturday.
