Wolves 2, Athletic Bilbao 1: Match report
IN-FORM strikers Steven Fletcher and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake scored the goals that secured a deserved victory for Wolves in front of a healthy sized crowd at Molineux.
Fletcher, along with Belgian international Jelle Van Damme, was making his first appearance in front of the home support and he certainly whetted the appetite of the Molineux faithful with a performance that caused untold problems for the Bilbao defence.
He was on the receiving end of an inch-perfect return pass from Ebanks-Blake to stroke Wolves into a 15th-minute lead.
And shortly afterwards he headed a long clearance from defence into the path of Ebanks-Blake, who powered a 30-yard dipping volley a couple of feet over the bar.
Bilbao drew level ten minutes from the break when Ibai Gomez’s low cross was allowed to travel across the face of Marcus Hahnemann’s goal to David Lopez, who was unmarked at the far post and had little difficulty in converting.
