Loan spell challenge for Wolves youngster

YOUNG winger Daniel Jones is hoping a loan spell with Northampton will help propel him towards the Wolves team after joining up with the Cobblers until January.

The 21-year-old has been snapped up by Northampton boss and former Wolves assistant Stuart Gray on a five month loan.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, with a far stronger squad this season, is looking to loan out some of his younger players in the hope of following the example set by Wayne Hennessey and Stephen Gleeson last season.

"I just want to play football on a regular basis and gain some experience," Jones said of joining the League One side. "It's a new challenge and I'm quite excited about it.

"I've already seen what long term loans have done for the likes of Wayne and Stephen and hopefully going to Northampton, and playing regularly, will put me in good stead for when I return to Wolves."

Having made his Wolves debut in April of last year as left back at Plymouth, Jones made eight appearances at left midfield last season, his impact hampered by a troublesome groin injury.

Although Jones has played a sizeable part of Wolves' pre-season, Stephen Ward is in pole position for the left wing berth with Matt Jarvis currently sidelined with a hip problem.

Left backs Charlie Mulgrew and Michael Gray can also fill in further forward if required.
