Olofinjana wants Wolves to learn from mistakes

Seyi Olofinjana

SEYI Olofinjana admitted Wolves' defeat to Watford was a "wake-up call" as they quite literally paid the penalty for their second half performance.

Instead of building on Olofinjana's excellently-worked opener in first half injury time, Wolves found themselves more and more on the defensive after the break and there was an air of inevitability about the Hornets' late two-goal salvo.

"We were so close but what can you do?" said Olofinjana. "They were very lucky and their first goal killed us - normally a deflection would go over the bar but it went straight in the top corner.

"Having said that I don't think we played particularly well in the second half, we didn't keep the ball enough as a team.

"If you want to be a good team as we are trying to be, if we want to be champions then we have got to get better at doing that.

"Of course the gaffer didn't tell us to defend second half but somehow we ended up too deep and that meant they got some joy by just getting the ball and launching it forward.

"That's what you face a lot in this division but if any team does come and play like that we have to be able to rise to the occasion and do well. But there's 45 games to go and we know we can play better."

And Olofinjana believes Wolves will indeed get better.

"As much as I'd rather we never lost a game I'd rather this happen now than later," he added. "This was a baptism of fire for us and a wake-up call that this is the season proper and we've got to step things up from here."
