McCarthy: Wasteful finishing cost us

Mick McCarthy

MICK McCarthy pinpointed a wastefulness in front of goal for Wolves failing to reap the rewards of a "terrific performance" at Plymouth.

Wolves completely dominated at a venue notoriously difficult for away teams but paid the penalty for only scoring once through Stephen Elliott as Nick Chadwick notched a second half equaliser.

"Profligate," summed up McCarthy. "I can't say too much else. "I thought it was a terrific performance but wasteful in terms of our finishing.

"We took the one chance, but had plenty of others, and I can't describe it as anything other than two points lost.

"Players don't mean to miss chances, but we just need to be more clinical when we create them.

"It was a good all-round performance and I should have been going home with a smile on my face talking about how we've got three points."

Both McCarthy and Plymouth boss Ian Holloway admitted they felt Chadwick might have fouled Craddock before levelling the scores.

"But it shouldn't have mattered," added McCarthy. "At that stage that shouldn't have made even a dent on the result because we should already have had four or five."
