Wolves boss set to stick with strike duo

Andy Keogh

WOLVES boss Mick McCarthy today delivered a vote of confidence to strikeforce Andy Keogh and Stephen Elliott - and hinted at continuing to leave top scorer Freddy Eastwood on the bench at Leicester tomorrow.

Although Wolves have only scored 10 goals in eight Championship games so far, and failed to make their superiority count against Plymouth on Saturday, McCarthy is still backing Keogh and Elliott as the best pairing to help continue the team's impressive form.

And that means both Eastwood and Jay Bothroyd - who looked lively when coming off the bench at Home Park - may once again be kicking their heels at the Walkers Stadium.

"I can understand people are saying that because we are not scoring goals then why isn't Freddy playing," said McCarthy. "But there's no point getting concerned about things because we are playing well.

"And Andy and Stephen created those chances on Saturday with their pace and movement and athleticism. They did as much as they possibly could and I thought while our all-round performance was terrific the front pairing were also great.

"There was one chance where Andy picked the ball up on the edge of our box and ended up having a shot in their box after a one-two with Stephen.

"The keeper made a save but no one else would have got into that position in the first place. Of course we need more goals from somewhere and we had enough corners to do something. But if we keep playing like we have been then I'm not going to be too concerned."
