Mick McCarthy: Bryan Robson needs a result as much as I do

MICK McCarthy will lock horns with Bryan Robson at Molineux today admitting both managers "need a result".

But he insists the sort of flak his former international adversary is facing at Sheffield United - and indeed he too to a certain extent at Wolves - just goes with the territory.

"Bryan's in that club isn't he? The 92 club," said the Wolves boss, who gets on well with the former Albion manager. "He doesn't need my sympathy because we both understand that these things happen.

"It doesn't take a lot for football managers to get grief and by the same token it doesn't take a lot either to get people back on side.

"You get two or three results and suddenly everything looks a lot happier and a lot brighter.

"It can turn around very quickly as has been proven with the fact that two of the most successful managers ever - Sir Alex Ferguson and Howard Kendall - were only a game away from the sack.

"They'd been getting loads of abuse, nothing was right, and then went on to become huge successes.

"At some stage you just have to get your head down and get on with it which is what Bryan will be trying to do.

"He's high profile, a former England captain and such a wonderful player and a good record as a manager with different clubs.

"That can make it very hard for him to get his head down and get on with it, but this afternoon he'll be coming to bang heads with me who also needs a result."
