Mick McCarthy stays cool despite Scunthorpe win

Mick McCarthy

WOLVES boss Mick McCarthy admits there’ll be no getting carried away despite bringing their winless streak to an end at Scunthorpe.

Saturday’s success, a first in eight away from home and nine in all league outings, has provided a much-needed boost to Molineux confidence levels but McCarthy knows it must only be the beginning if Wolves are to revive their promotion ambitions.

He said:  “I can’t really say the mood is more buoyant or bubbly than it is normally but individually the players feel a bit better about themselves.

“We all do, me included, that’s what happens when you win.

“We work in that bizarre business that three points makes such a difference between a pleasant weekend and one that’s absolutely lousy.

“We knew that there hadn’t been a massive amount wrong.

“We’d not been getting turned over and I made my thoughts clear after the 3-0 defeat to Palace – it wasn’t a 3-0 performance.

“But while it was a good performance on Saturday I’m not getting carried away.

“We should go to Scunthorpe and win that game so I’m not jumping about thinking that’s changed the world suddenly.

“But you can only play against what’s in front of you.”
