Eastwood still has a future at Wolves

Freddy Eastwood

FREDDY Eastwood today revealed he has received reassurances from Wolves boss Mick McCarthy over his Molineux future and is ready to make the most of his next first team chance.

The £1.5million striker revealed his frustrations at his lack of action in a hard-hitting interview last week, albeit one in which he also explained there were no problems with McCarthy and that he was desperate to make a success of his Wolves career.

For his part, McCarthy clearly accepts Eastwood is not going to be happy while not in the team, and has challenged him to continue working hard behind the scenes in order to get his chance.

That may yet come at Watford this afternoon, but Eastwood’s participation depends on whether he is allowed to wear a protective cast having undergone an operation to repair a broken bone in his hand.

“I had a chat with the gaffer in the week and asked him a few questions,” said Eastwood.

“He just told me I’d been doing well and just to keep my head down and keep working.

“He said I was in with a chance of starting today with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake cup-tied but obviously I’ve had this setback so we’ll have to see.

“The gaffer signed me, but he also signed a fair few other strikers including Sylvan, and it’s always going to be tough to keep everyone happy.

“There’s probably 30-odd players in our squad when everyone’s fit, and it’s always going to be only the 11 who start who are completely happy.

“I’ve had a few chats with the gaffer since I’ve been here and he’s always been straight and honest with me and I’m just hoping I’ll get a chance soon.”

McCarthy meanwhile took in Northampton’s game with Leyton Orient last night to check on the progress of loanees Mark Little and Daniel Jones, the latter of whom returns to Wolves on Monday.
