Taylor: Mick McCarthy needs three years at Wolves

FORMER Wolves boss Graham Taylor believes Mick McCarthy should get at least three years in the Molineux hotseat - and not do to McCarthy what they did to him.

Taylor was sacked by Jonathan Hayward after 18 months in the job, which is the length of time that McCarthy has been in charge.

Taylor believes new owner Steve Morgan, although he did not appoint McCarthy, should give the manager every chance to complete the job.

"Mick is finding the same sort of pressures I did," said Taylor.

"I realise this is the Black Country and if the team aren't winning, the fans will let you know.

"But what I would a say to the supporters is: Where were the club 18 months ago when Mick took over'?

"Mick took Wolves to the play-offs. Come on fellas. You need to look at that. All managers should get at least three years in the job. After three years a manager cannot say 'it's not my team'. And you can see the direction the club is heading.

"Wolves still have a chance of the play-offs but it is difficult."

Taylor also believes that McCarthy is paying a high price for taking Wolves into a surprise play-off place last season

"Maybe they got there too early," said Taylor.
