Injury-hit Dave Edwards targets Plymouth game for comeback

Dave Edwards

FRUSTRATED Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards is confident his campaign is not yet over as he targets a return for the final game of the season with Plymouth.

Edwards’ comeback from a groin problem sustained at Preston six weeks ago lasted just 18 minutes as the weekend as he suffered more misfortune, a knee injury in the early stages against Ipswich.

The January signing is as yet unable to train, but hopeful of getting back next week in time to be available for the final day visit of the Pilgrims.

“The knee is quite tender and every time I extend my leg I get a pain so I’m not really able to train,” he said.

“Hopefully I will be back in training in the early part of next week and be ready for the Plymouth game.

“It’s not too bad, just frustrating more than anything, but it’s not going to be long term.

“The medical team are happy that nothing’s torn, it’s a just case of letting the inflammation go down to take the swelling out of it.

“If I can return to training in the early part of next week then I should be o-k for the Plymouth game because I’m a relatively fit lad anyway and hopefully my fitness will prove I don’t need a reserve game.”

Edwards admitted the timing of the blow was unfortunate, not least with there being plenty of competition for places in the Molineux engine room.

“I was desperate to carry on because I had a point to prove but I just couldn’t,” he explained.

“I just feel unlucky because I got fit then had to wait for my chance because we had a break.

“So it’s just disappointing because I’m desperate to play but the physio said there’s nothing I can do about it.

“It’s going to be hard to get back in the team but I have got to knuckle down and work as hard as I can to get my place back.”
