Gary Breen: Winter slump cost Wolves

Gary Breen

SKIPPER Gary Breen admitted Wolves blew their promotion chance in an eight-game spell around the turn of the year.

After an encouraging start to the season, when Wolves were third in the table, a December defeat at Barnsley signalled a run of four points from eight games which cost the club dear.

And even though they roused themselves and indeed returned to the top six following a March win at Charlton, it wasn't enough.

"I don't know if it was so much to do with today," Breen said after the win against Plymouth.

"It was that period in the winter where we didn't win for eight games and paid the price.

"At this level for Wolves you cannot go eight or nine games without winning."

While admitting Wolves' future should be bright, Breen was non-committal on his own situation.

Breen, Jody Craddock and Michael Gray are all out of contract, but due back tomorrow for a debrief when more will be known.

"I'm just going to wipe my mouth of this match and then I'll deal with it," said Breen.

"I can't say any more at the moment."
