Nothing wrong with being ambitious, says Wolves boss Mick McCarthy

Mick McCarthy

WOLVES boss Mick McCarthy has no complaint with chairman Steve Morgan’s public pronouncement of trying to win the Championship title next season.

Morgan went on the pitch after the final game of the season and in a bid to lift the dejected Wolves supporters called for a renewed effort to avoid even the play-offs next time out, and gain automatic promotion.

Piling on the pressure? Just ambition, argues McCarthy.

“The players will relish it more next season because they understand the league a bit more,” said the manager.

“And Steve will understand it a bit more.

“He’s followed Liverpool all his life and been to European Cup finals, but this league is different.

“I have no problem with Steve.

“No one wants it more than Steve, Jez (Moxey) or me and we’re working towards getting it right.

“The fans aren’t happy because we haven’t been promoted but I believe in what I am doing and I will continue to do that and I know people at the club believe in what I’m doing.”
