Seyi Olofinjana heads for Wolves exit

Seyi Olofinjana

WOLVES have agreed to a transfer request from their Nigerian international Seyi Olofinjana.

The midfielder only signed a new four-year deal last October which wasn’t due to run out until June 2011.

But Wolves chief executive Jex Moxey explained: “At the time of signing a new contract with Seyi last year, we agreed that, should the club miss out on promotion at the end of last season, we would circulate his name for transfer, if that was what he wished.

“As expected, Seyi has made that request and we are therefore following through on our commitment and he has been duly placed on the transfer list.

“As an experienced senior international player who has not only served Wolves well, but re-signed instead of holding out to become a free agent this summer, he has given us the opportunity of recouping our financial investment in him and to help buy new players.’’

Olofinjana was snapped up for £1.7million from Norwegian club Brann Bergen by Dave Jones in July 2004.

He went on to make 147 appearances for Wolves over four years, scoring 18 times in the process.

Meanwhile, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake’s future at Wolves is looking increasingly uncertain after Everton manager David Moyes emerged as an admirer of the striker.

Moyes is monitoring the situation where it is likely to be all-change in the up-front department this summer with manager Mick McCarthy having transfer-listed Freddy Eastwood, Jay Bothroyd and Stephen Elliott.
