Fitness is the top priority for Mark Davies

MARK Davies has revealed he has only one aim this pre-season – to stay fit so that he is in contention when Wolves open their league campaign at Plymouth on August 9.

Davies lodged an impressive 45 minutes at Wrexham, running at and troubling the opponents’ defence to suggest he is ready to put behind him the succession of injuries that have plagued him for the last two seasons.

But the talented 20-year-old is determined not to get ahead of himself. He intends to approach his progress back towards the first team very much one step at a time.

“I suffered with injuries last year but hopefully am over them now,” Davies said. “The Wrexham game was fine, a little bit of a struggle on the lungs but my knee and everything else was fine.

“The main thing for me is just to keep injury-free. I just want to stay fit and give the gaffer something to think about.

“I am enjoying pre-season. There is competition in the midfield with David Jones coming in but there are a few good players now, so we will see how it goes. I want to keep fit until the season starts and see where I go from there”
