We want to reward Wolves fans, says David Jones

David Jones

DAVID Jones has outlined Wolves’ players determination to reward their loyal away following in Devon with a winning start to the season on Saturday.

Wolves will be watched by 2,700 travelling fans, their full allocation of tickets for the game at Plymouth – a repeat of the opening-day fixture that launched Mick McCarthy’s reign as manager two years ago.

And midfielder Jones and his team-mates would love those supporters to be making the long trip back to the Black Country in the best of spirits.

“We know we will have good support down there,” Jones said.

“Wolves are a massive club with great support and the fans have already been great to me and really welcomed me.

“I am looking forward to playing well for them this season and doing everything I can to make the team a better team so we can push on,” he added.

“It’s always good to get the campaign off to a good start so we are looking to go down there and win for the fans.”

To do that, however, Wolves must overcome a decent Plymouth side – and that is a mission Jones insists they are certainly not taking lightly.

“Plymouth won’t be easy,” he said. “And, although pre-season has gone really well, we know that a lot of games in the championship are tough so you can never get ahead of yourself.

“We are just concentrating on Plymouth. The schedule for the months ahead is very tough but all that concerns us right now is the first game. It’s a big test and all our attention has to be on that.”
