Club form the key for Kevin Foley

Kevin Foley

WOLVES defender Kevin Foley today revealed his focus is entirely on club matters as he prepares to embark on a season which is likely to bring his senior bow in international football.

When Wolves open their season at Plymouth tomorrow, Foley will line up at right-back, as he did 47 times last season, making a big impression with his consistency after arriving from Luton Town.

Already in the Republic of Ireland system, the 23-year-old has been involved with their senior squad this year without yet making it on to the pitch at the highest level.

That graduation should be near. But Foley is adopting a patient approach to that strand of his career. His sole priority at the moment – excelling for Wolves.

“I am not really thinking about my international career,” Foley said.

“Of course I would like to break through into the Ireland team but all I can do is everything I can to play well for Wolves. Everything stems from that really.

“All my concentration is on Wolves and trying to keep my performance levels high week in and week out. Then, if anything develops from that, I’ll be happy.” To be playing Premiership football would do Foley no harm at all, of course.

And he reckons Wolves, having narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, are “wiser” for the experience they gathered last term.

He added: “A lot of us are a year older and wiser for the experience and that will really help us this time round.”
