Wayne Hennessey salutes Wolves' fans

Wayne Hennessey

WAYNE Hennessey has saluted Wolves’ supporters as a force that can “really make a difference” to the team’s fortunes this season.

“The fans are great and I don’t think they understand sometimes how much they really do make a difference,” the goalkeeper said. “The cheering and support from the stands really does help the players and it just seems to give that added boost which can be so important.

“If a winger is taking on his man with the ball and the crowd are behind him it can just make that difference in spurring him on to get past him.

“Most of the fans are really spot-on, they boost you and give you exactly what you need.

“When you come out of the tunnel at Molineux in front of a decent crowd it’s great to see them all and hear them cheering,” he said.

And the backing of those supporters can mean a lot to indivuduals at important times, revealed Hennessey,

“It has been great to hear them singing for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Andy Keogh already this season and they were great to me when I made a mistake against Burnley last season,” he said.

“All the players need it because to hear praise instead of criticism really boosts a player and gives him that added edge.

“Who knows when that extra bit of support might actually get us a goal.

“We have seen how great the fans can be at Molineux and we’ll need that over the course of the season.”
