Mick McCarthy: That was superb!

MICK McCarthy hailed Wolves’ first-half display in the 5-1 win over Forest as one of the best by a team under his management.

“That first 45 minutes was as good a performance I’ve seen from a team of mine – or indeed any team – for a very long time,” the Wolves boss said.

“We knew Forest like to play open, attacking football which in turn leaves them open to counter-attacks and our counter-attacking football was a pleasure to watch.

“Last season we used to create chance upon chance and were thinking that one day we were going to give a team a bit of a ‘doing’. But it never happened.

“Now we’ve done it twice in two home games with this one and Sheffield Wednesday and we could also have had more. I’ve enjoyed these two wins at home and I’m sure the fans have as well and there’ll be a feelgood factor around the place for the next two weeks.

“It will be nice for the players to pick up the newspapers and see us top of the league.

“But there’s still the small matter of 42 games to go so nobody will be getting carried away.”
