Matt Hill will feel the nerves

MATT Hill admits he will feel a few nerves as he settles in at Wolves after arriving from Championship rivals Preston North End.

But the 27-year-old, who signed a three-year contract at Molinuex last Monday, expects those nerves soon to be banished as he beds in amongst some familiar faces.

The left-back has faced plenty of the current Wolves squad over the seasons. And one of them he has known as a team-mate - David Jones from the young midfielder’s time at Deepdale.

“I am very excited about the move,” Hill said. “You have that little bit of nerves and anxiety after any move, like I did when I first went to Preston, because you want to go out and do well for the club.

“It will be exactly the same here but I’m looking forward to the challenge. I know David Jones from Preston but also playing against the lads a few times I know what they’re about. There are a lot of leaders in the squad.

“At 27 I may be one of the older lads in the group but a lot of the squad here, even though they are fairly young, have played a lot of games in the Championship.”

Hill witnessed Wolves’ dismantling of Forest last Saturday and was impressed as the east Midlanders were thumped 5-1.

“I watched them last Saturday and they were fantastic,” he said. “Seeing how well they were doing made me wonder if I was going to get in the team. It was a great display and the confidence seems to be flowing.

“It’s such a tough league and I think it’s important for Wolves just to keep picking up points and see where we are come March and April.”

Hill is set for his debut at Charlton next Saturday - and will be hoping that Wolves net a similar result to a previous occasion on which he made a bow in one of their fixtures. When he made his Football League debut for hometown club Bristol City, it was against Wolves at Ashton Gate - and Colin Lee’s side won 6-1.

“I came off the bench when we were 4-1 down and we ended up losing 6-1,” he said. “For me it was memorable as I was just 17.

“The result wasn’t great for the team but for me, individually it was a great day.”
