Wolves wait on Chris Iwelumo red card appeal
WOLVES were expecting to find out today whether the red card shown to leading scorer Chris Iwelumo at Preston last Saturday will be rescinded.
Their appeal against the striker’s dismissal, for an alleged butting incident, was due to be heard at the FA headquarters in Soho Square this afternoon.
If Iwelumo’s punishment stands he will be suspended for the next three games – all tough clashes with top-half-of-the-table opposition Bristol City, Reading and Swansea.
Many times down the years clubs have been left fuming and bewildered by referees sticking to their decision, even in the light of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
But Wolves have cause for optimism in this case as even Preston defender Sean St Ledger, the perceived “victim” of the incident, has told referee Martin Atkinson the clash was accidental.
Wolves have not appealed against Wayne Hennessey’s red card at Preston.
The goalkeeper will be suspended for the match against Bristol City.
