Injuries will cost us - Mick McCarthy

MICK McCarthy had much more on his mind than three points lost after Wolves ended their defeat to Reading ravaged by injuries.

Most worryingly, wingers Matt Jarvis and Michael Kightly, on whose flair the team’s great start to the season has been built, suffered hamstring injuries.

Both will miss the visit to Swansea on Saturday while Jarvis’ absence could be for the medium term. He was stretchered off in great pain with a suspected torn muscle, in which case an absence of six to eight weeks beckons.

Stephen Ward and Andy Keogh also took knocks so, with Chris Iwelumo still suspended on Saturday, Wolves’ resources will be seriously stretched at the Liberty Stadium.

“The cost to the team is far greater than losing three points,” McCarthy said. “The cost is huge because Jarvo has clearly gone down with a hamstring and Kightly is also a hamstring.

“Stephen Ward has had a bang in the ribs and might need an X-ray, while Andy was struggling with a kick in the back and carried on manfully.

“Kights was getting progressively worse so maybe we have caught that before it got too bad. The fact that he and Jarvo got hamstring problems is an indication of how hard they work.

“We will have to see what the situation is with Jarvo when it settles down. It’s fair to say the two of them won’t be involved on Saturday.
