Wolverhanpton Wanderers issue hands off warning to Sunderland over McCarthy
WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers players last night issued a “hands off our manager” warning to Premier League rivals Sunderland as Mick McCarthy’s name was thrown into the ring as a potential successor to Roy Keane.
McCarthy managed the Black Cats between 2003-2006 and the Championship November Manager of the Month has inevitably been linked by some because of his fantastic form in managing Wolves.
But his players say while they are not surprised their manager is attracting attention, they are convinced he is happy to concentrate on the task in hand at Molineux.
Wolves defender Micky Gray, who was at Sunderland under McCarthy, said it was no surprise the Yorkshireman had been linked.
He said: “I would like to think when we say ‘hands off’ to Sunderland that would be the case because we are very happy with our gaffer at Wolves and I am sure he is happy here.
