Wolves v Preston: Matt Hill aims to shine against old club

“I am training hard and hopefully that is enough to ensure a chance to play against my old side.”

Hill may have some inside knowledge on the Deepdale boys but insists manager Mick McCarthy has not been hassling him.

He said: “I think the manager is aware of every team and has his scouts as well as doing his own homework.

“The boys here have come across Preston already this season and won and know what they are all about.”

The Bristol-born star added: “I spoke to some of my old teammates after their game against Liverpool in the FA Cup last week – to wish them all the best before the game and then say hard luck afterwards. I felt they did really well especially in the second half.

“But I will probably avoid speaking to my friends before the game now but I may text them afterwards!”

The defender, who played for Bristol City before his move northwards, added: “I spoke to Andy the goalkeeper and took the mickey out of him – but not for the 2-0 defeat – he had a good game.

“I was teasing him for running over to Pepe Reina after the game to try and get his shirt! I still have a lot of friends there and wish them all the best ... but only after this game.”
