Wolves boss Mick McCarthy puts his faith in power of prayer

WOLVES manager Mick McCarthy admits this afternoon’s opponents Burnley will be tough nuts to crack after their inspired cup run which saw them come so close to knocking Premier League Tottenham out of the Carling Cup.

Wolves beat Burnley 2-0 earlier in the season at Molineux but McCarthy is not taking Owen Coyle’s Clarets for granted.

“They’re a good side with some good, experienced players and they’ve had a fantastic cup run,” McCarthy said. “They were very unfortunate in not beating Tottenham in a fantastic game.

“They’ve got some good individuals but they’ve got a good team ethic.”

Wolves, meanwhile, are desperate to get back to winning ways with just one win in eight league games.

McCarthy added: “I covered the Ireland game this week and met a lovely lady who said she was going to say some prayers for me.

“I thanked her but would go so far as to say if anyone wants to say a prayer for me of whatever religion or denomination, I’d be delighted to accept them.” Asked if God was looking down on him, McCarthy quipped: “If we’ve only won one in eight, obviously not. I think Roberto Martinez (Swansea manager) is getting all the prayers at the moment!”
