Teenage striker Sam Vokes has mixed feelings about his second start for Wolverhampyon Wanderers

WOLVES’ teenage striker Sam Vokes admitted he had mixed emotions after making only his second league start during the 1-0 defeat at Burnley on Saturday.

The 19-year-old Wales international has had to be patient since arriving at Molineux from Bournemouth in the summer and has been a substitute 22 times as Wolves stormed to the top of the Championship.

Due to the impressive early season form of Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Chris Iwelumo, his only other league start came in September during the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

But Vokes’ delight at finally breaking into the starting 11 was tinged by Wolves’ defeat at Turf Moor and the fact they have now tasted victory just once in their last nine games.

“It was good to get a start, but it was a very disappointing result,” Vokes said.

“We gave away a sloppy goal early on, and I think we were trying to fight back from that.

“We didn’t play the greatest of football, either, on the day.
