Wolverhampton Wanderers sweat on Kightly fitness ahead of Ipswich game

Coca-Cola Championship leaders Wolves hope Michael Kightly will be available as they look to continue their return to form against Ipswich at Molineux tomorrow night.

Winger Kightly, who set up Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's early winner at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, limped off with a hamstring problem in the latter stages of the 1-0 win, the second in succession for Mick McCarthy's side after they had managed only one in the previous 11 league matches.

McCarthy took Kightly off as a precaution and hopes the 23-year-old will be fit to return to the side and sustain the momentum in their push for automatic promotion.

McCarthy said: "Kights has hurt his hamstring. If he doesn't make it we've got Matt Jarvis who will hopefully be back and Kyel Reid is okay so we've got cover. It would be disappointing for Kights but let's hope it's not too serious."

Second-placed Birmingham have injury concerns of their own as they look to close the three-point gap at the top with a trip to Barnsley.

Strikers Cameron Jerome and Marcus Bent both left the pitch prematurely during Saturday's win over Southampton, Jerome with a bout of cramp and Bent, like Kightly, troubled by hamstring problems.

It is cause for concern for Blues boss Alex McLeish, who has had forwards Kevin Phillips, Garry O'Connor and James McFadden out of action over the last few weeks and loaned Gary McSheffrey to Nottingham Forest on Thursday.
