Wolves: Wayne Hennessey dreaming of Premiership thrills

WOLVES’ number one Wayne Hennessey has an added incentive for wanting to guide his team to the promised land and the Barclays’ Premier League this season .

He was just a boy in the Wolves’ academy the last time the club got promoted and wants a bit of the action for himself this time round.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper admits the thought of playing sides like Manchester United week-in, week-out would be a huge reward for himself and his young team-mates.

The goalkeeper said: “I have been here five years now and it would definitely mean a lot to me to get into the top flight.

“When I was in the academy I would look at some of the players playing at that time like Matt Murray, Michael Oakes and, of course, Paul Jones and I would look up to them.

“Then we went into the Premiership when Dave Jones was manager and I thought it was fantastic seeing our side play against the Manchester Uniteds of the world.

“I used to go and watch the games when I was in the academy and now I have a great chance to be up there myself with Wolves – if we can keep on going and get there.”

Hennessey knows with two games a week now the last eight matches will fly, starting with Charlton at home this afternoon.

“We just have to take each game as it comes now,” he said. “It has been a long season and it is there for us now. We have just got to try and get as many points as possible now out of these last few games but we will take each one, step by step.”
