Wolves fans question McCarthy’s decision to play Kightly

Wolves are hopeful striker Chris Iwelumo will be fit for the trip to St Andrew’s, despite his returning home from Scottish international duty before Wednesday night’s World Cup qualifier with Iceland. The striker had a hip complaint but is expected to recover.

Wolves medic Steve Kemp said: “We don’t think it’s anything too serious but we’ll monitor him over the next couple of days to see how he goes.

“There’s no major injury trauma there and the main thing is that it’s a precautionary step. We’re thankful that the Scottish medical team sent him back because it gives Chris a chance to be involved for us on Monday.”

Wolves’ other injured stars, striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and winger Matt Jarvis, are both back in training and expected to be ready for the clash with Alex McLeish’s side.

Ebanks-Blake, the country’s top marksman with 24 goals so far in the Championship, returned from England Under-21 duty with a calf strain while Jarvis is on the way back from knee ligament trouble.
