Birmingham City v Wolves: McCarthy sees Blues man Phillips as a real danger

MICK McCarthy believes fit-again Blues striker Kevin Phillips could be the dangerman in tonight’s Championship showdown at St Andrew’s.
The Wolves’ manager is a big admirer of the veteran, who has also played for Villa and Albion among a host of top-flight clubs during a glittering career spanning 15 years.
Phillips has scored 13 times for Blues this season, despite seeing his appearances limited through injury, and McCarthy believes Wolves will ignore him at their peril.
He said: “Kevin Phillips has been Blues’ talisman when he has been fit and he scored all the goals for West Brom last year when they got promoted.
“He only came on in the last game against us with minutes to go and yet he hit the crossbar with a header. He has to be the No.1 dangerman.
“He is a natural goalscorer, the European Golden Boot winner and he just has the know-how and the knowledge to score goals.
“He is a good player but then they have good players. Cameron Jerome is a real handful and Sebastian Larsson, too. They are a good side and that is why they are second in the league.”
