Wolves captain Karl Henry set to win Premier new deal

Henry has emerged as one of his team’s most important players this term with 42 league appearances in Wolves’ Championship winning season.

As a result McCarthy has made no secret of his desire to keep his captain, a fact Walters believes is not surprising given the powerhouse’s potential.

“Karl and all the other players have been working hard to get Wolves into the Premier League and no one is more determined than Karl to keep them there,’’ he said.

“Mick McCarthy has got a few players who belong in the Premier League, they just needed to get there to prove that.”

Henry has been a lynchpin of McCarthy’s free-scoring team. While Wolves have gone on to lead the division in goals, Henry’s contribution has not always been appreciated among supporters.

But the manager clearly values his contribution and no-one can dispute Henry has made massive strides since joining from Stoke City in August 2006.

Having played most of his first season he suffered a terrible spleen injury that ended his campaign in March.

But he played 40 league games last term and two more this to establish a reputation as one of the most consistent performers at the club.
