Wolves: How Mick McCarthy aims to do a Stoke
Mick McCarthy hopes to emulate Premier League critic-confounders Stoke City when he takes Wolverhampton Wanderers team into the top flight next season.
The Molineux manager has expressed his admiration for the Potteries outfit after their 11th win of the a hugely successful campaign, over Hull City last Saturday, guaranteed their safety.
But while McCarthy may not share similar footballing principles to Tony Pulis’s men, he praised them for the manner in which they have acquitted themselves, particularly the equanimity with which Pulis has faced every situation.
Stoke did not get off to the racing start enjoyed by Hull and even went more than two months without a league win either side of Christmas but they have kept plugging away and have made the finishing line with two games to spare.Wolves did hit the ground running this season and even though McCarthy would like to do the same again, he anticipates the route to safety might be to follow Stoke’s footsteps.
