The Tom Ross Column: Midland managers will be shopping in different stores
May 27 2009 By Tom Ross
What happens is that player’s agents call their friends in the national media and claim that a number of clubs are set to sign the players they represent?
This then reported as fact and increases the expectation level of the supporters and when it does not happen; they then become disillusioned and disappointed.
Last season Villa listed all the players they were “linked” with and it totalled around eighty or ninety 90 per cent of whom were never on Martin O’Neil’s radar.
Sadly, it’s all part of the game that is the Premier League where every cough and sneeze is big news, especially if it’s Ronaldo doing the coughing or sneezing.
* I HAVE been surprised at the number of people who think Manchester United will beat Barcelona and win the Champions League tonight. I am not one of them, I believe the Spaniards will confirm that they are the best club side in the world at the moment.
The only thing that would change my mind is if Fergie’s men were to get stuck into Barça as Chelsea did in the semi-final. However, I don’t think that’s in Sir Alex’s mindset for United.
That’s why I think Barça will win the game. However, if Christano Ronaldo and Tevez are top of their game then who knows. Can’t wait for the kick-off.
* THAT’s it for another season. Thanks for all your calls and emails about the column. Remember, it’s not fact or gospel just my thoughts and opinions.
I look forward to sharing them with you next season here in Brum’s very own Birmingham Mail.
Have a great summer and good luck to Ashley Giles and the Bears.
